AhbAB is not inhibited by heme in vitro. The AhbAB enzyme activity assay was performed as described in Materials and Methods. In the absence of purified AhbAB no 12,18-didecarboxysiroheme (DDSH) is formed from siroheme (SH) (upper panel). In the presence of 20 μM AhbAB, DDSH is formed independent of the amounts of added heme (other panels) suggesting that heme does not inhibit the in vitro activity of AhbAB.
