Line plots showing dose-dependent decreases in rabbit MRI volumes (means ± SEM) for total brain (unfilled circle) and cerebellum (filled triangle). Premature rabbit kits were delivered by C-section and treated with glycerol at the doses indicated then, two weeks after treatment, kits were killed and brains were perfusion fixed and removed for subsequent MRI measurements (N = 3–5 per dose). ANOVA differences compared to 0-dose control are indicated as ‡ = P ≤ 0.001 and † = P ≤ 0.05 (Dunnett’s post-hoc tests). MRI volumes did not correlate with the presence of IVH.
