Inflammatory cells in bronchoalveolar lavage. (a) The allergic group exhibited an increased percentage of eosinophils (***P < 0.001) and neutrophils (**P < 0.01) in comparison with controls. (b) Both anti-inflammatory treatments significantly reduced the number of eosinophils in comparison with the allergic group (••P < 0.01), but values were still greater than in controls. Montelukast normalized neutrophils, in contrast with budesonide, which maintained high levels (**P < 0.01).
