No significant difference in LV mechanics between species. A: circumferential wall stress was estimated using individual dimensions determined from echocardiography and the group average pressures according to the Law of Laplace. No differences were found. B: the deformation of the tissue at end diastole was predicted from the mechanical properties measured by biaxial testing and the estimated diastolic stresses. Circumferential and longitudinal stretch ratios were found to be similar, and no differences were found between groups. All values are means ± SE. Sample sizes are n = 8 (4/sex) animals per species.
