Shown are baseline data for the 3 rat strains Brown Norway (BN), Dahl salt-sensitive (SS), and consomic SS^6BN (n = 30 per strain). Systolic, diastolic, and developed, i.e., systolic–diastolic, left ventricular pressure (LVP), its positive and negative first derivatives dLVP/dt_max and dLVP/dt_min as indexes of contractility and relaxation, respectively, spontaneous heart rate (HR) in beats/min, and coronary flow (in ml per min per g heart wt) were measured at baseline, i.e., after 20 min stabilization. None of the baseline parameters showed a difference between the control and its respective ischemia-reperfusion (IR) group in any of the 3 strains (data not shown). All values are means ± SE;
