Design of small interfering RNA (siRNA) oligos to target the mutant COL6A3 mRNA transcripts skipping exon 16 (Δ16). (a) Schematic diagram representing the hypothesis that siRNAs designed to target the COL6A3 exon15/17 junction, when loaded into the RNA-induced silencing complex, would specifically recognize and bind the mutant mRNA (Δ16), thus promoting its cleavage and clearance from the cytoplasm.
