(A) Cell viability was determined by the MTT assay after 48 hrs. of incubation with RTV at 0–30 µM in normal (0.8 mM) Mg or in 2 mM MgSO4 with DMSO as drug vehicle control. (B) Time course of RTV (15 µM)-mediated loss of cell viability and the effects of 2 mM Mg; cell viability was normalized to controls without RTV. (C) A separate set of cells in 6-well plates were incubated with 15 µM RTV in 0.8 or 2 mM Mg for 24 hrs; total glutathione (GSH+GSSG) and GSSG were determined. Data represent means±SEM of 5–6 separate determinations; *p<0.05, ** p<0.01 vs. Ctls. +p<0.05, ++ p<0.01 vs RTV in 0.8 mM Mg.
