The NSC-induced decrease in viable cell number was blocked by Z-VAD-FMK, a pan-caspase inhibitor, but not rottlerin, a PKCδ inhibitor in DU-145 cells. DU-145 cells were treated with or without NSC (50 nM) for 72 h in the presence or absence of various doses of rottlerin or 20 μM of Z-VAD-FMK, and the numbers of viable cells were determined as described in “Materials and methods”. The data were presented as percent of vehicle control, and the values are the mean ± SEM of 6–12 individual samples from two to four independent triplicate experiments. * P < 0.05 and ** P < 0.01 compared to vehicle control; ## P < 0.01 compared to 50 nM NSC treatment (Student-Newman–Keuls test).
