DNA was isolated from whole blood, and infants with mild or severe RSV infection were genotyped for the MX1 SNP (Val379Ile) and were classified as homozygous for the major or minor allele, or heterozygous. χ2 analysis of RSV disease severity among homozygous wild-type, heterozygous, and homozygous variants was used to determine association of genotype with increased disease severity.
