The posterior midguts of adult females were dissected on the 10th day after blood feeding and 3 H-palmitic acid was added at the luminal side and incubated in culture medium. Thirty minutes later, the midgut was washed and subjected to lipid extraction. The total lipids were analysed by thin-layer chromatography and autoradiographed in a PhosphorImager.
