Plots are defined by (A) World Health Organization criteria, (B) International Diabetes Federation criteria, (C) original National Cholesterol Education Program criteria, and (D) modified National Cholesterol Education Program criteria. Data are compared by log-rank test. When both diabetic and nondiabetic patients are analyzed together, there is no significant difference in patient survival between patients with and without MES, except when MES is defined by the World Health Organization criteria.
