For each indicated species, the grey bars indicate the total number of miRNAs present in the miRBase db (version 14), whereas the black portion indicates the number of miRNAs with conserved seed region and at least 50% similarity of the pre-miRNA sequence with the sequence of the pig genome. Lower percentage of miRNAs with homology to pig genome are seen in invertebrates (e.g. Saccoglossus kowalevskii 2.22%; Branchiostoma floridae 2.74%), while higher percentages are found in primates.
