CGA protects cells against UVB-induced apoptosis. (A) Apoptotic bodies (arrows) were observed in cells stained with Hoechst 33342 dye by fluorescence microscopy and quantitated. *Significantly different from control (p<0.05); #significantly different from UVB-irradiated cells (p<0.05). (B) The mitochondrial membrane potential (Δψm) was assessed by flow cytometry after cells were stained with JC-1. *Significantly different from control cells (p<0.05); #significantly different from UVB-irradiated cells (p<0.05). (C) Cell lysates were subjected to electrophoresis, and Bcl-2 (26 kDa), Bax (23 kDa), and caspase-3 (17/19 kDa) were detected on immunoblots using appropriate antibodies. Actin was used to loading control.
