Representative MRI images at injury and on sacrifice day between the two groups. Cerebral contusions were seen as hypointense signal on T2* weighted gradient echo images acutely post-trauma (black arrows). At 3 days post-trauma contusions were seen as slightly hypointense on T2-weighted TSE images surrounded surrounded by a hyperintense signal (edema).
