Number of ovulatory cycles was estimated by multiplying “ovulatory years” by number of cycles per year based on a woman’s self reported cycle length (if available) or 13, if not, based an average cycle length of 28 days. Ovulatory years for each woman was calculated by subtracting age at menarche, 1 year for each term pregnancy, duration of oral contraceptive use, and breastfeeding from age at menopause (or age if premenopausal).
