Proposed model of VQ29 in regulating seedling deetiolation. Far-red light, which is perceived by phys, represses PIF1 and VQ29 levels. VQ29 interacts with PIF1 and acts as a transcriptional coregulator to promote PIF1’s activation activity on cell elongation-related genes, leading to the suppression of seedling deetiolation. Meanwhile, VQ29 might regulate downstream gene expression independently of PIF1 as indicated by a question mark. Arrows denote positive effects, and bars indicate negative roles.
