AcrAB and TolC were expressed from pACYC184 and pTrc99A plasmids, respectively, in a ΔacrAB ΔtolC background.

Reduced MIC values of the strain expressing wild type AcrAB and TolC may be due to the expression of TolC from a plasmid replicon as compared to its expression from the chromosomal locus in strains used in Table 3.
