The interplay between MTs and respective motor proteins can be modeled on different scales. Microscopic models (left panel) allow tracing back the network level behavior to molecular interactions but do not reach the level of abstraction needed for a fully analytical description. Macroscopic models (right panel) are much more phenomenological in their origin but they are able to deliver analytical descriptions.
