(a) For μ = 1 and ξ → ∞, the steady-state probability Ps(0) for the multi-site enzyme to be unoccupied as a function of ηN is presented (see equation (3.5)). A strong cooperative effect with increasing N is observed for large ηN, but this effect is lost for small ηN. (b) Integrated square deviation of the cumulative FDT distribution from a cumulative exponential distribution with the same mean departure time (see equations (3.14) and (3.15)). Maximal deviation from a perfect exponential is observed to occur near ηN = μ, which is where a broad distribution for Ps(z) is expected. Increasing the number of binding sites N decreases both typical and maximal deviation. Deviation from the ideal Poisson result tends to be small for all values of ηN (compare with a ‘large’ deviation of 1 when μ = 1).
