NPCL in the body of the hippocampus. This panel is formed of images encompassing the fimbria (F) and the dentate gyrus. The transition between the SPZ and the SVZ occurs in the fimbria (asterisk). NPCs are more frequently observed in the SPZ, especially near the fimbriodentate sulcus (fds). Note the darker color of the fimbria and the SVZ relative to the remaining cut. This same pattern is observed for vimentin, another NSC marker (Additional file 5: Figure S2).
