MAPKKKε-Triggered Cell Death Is Suppressed by PexRD2.
Coexpression of GFPPexRD2 with SlMAKKKε-KD
in N. benthamiana reduces the percentage of infiltration sites
with >50% confluent cell death at 2 to 7 d post-β-estradiol treatment
(dpt) compared with coexpression with the GFP control (A). By
contrast, PexRD2 did not suppress the cell death triggered by either the kinase
domain of SlMAPKKKα-KD (B) or a
constitutively active mutant of the proposed downstream MAPKK, SlMEK2Asp-Asp
(C). Results are the mean ± se of three
independent experiments, each using at least three plants. Asterisks indicate
values significantly different from the GFP control at the same time point (P
< 0.01) as determined by one-way ANOVA; all other values were not
significantly different (ns; P > 0.05). Images indicate representative
infiltration sites at 7 dpt.
