Schematic indicates changes in inspired gas concentrations during experiments. Animals were placed in the plethysmograph for 25–45 min at their chronic inspired O2 level before the start of an experiment to allow them time to acclimate to the environment. Continuous line indicates normoxia (21% O2); dashed line indicates chronic sustained hypoxia (10% O2). ABG samples were collected at the indicated time points. Animals received injections of ACSF (sham), NBQX, or MK801 at the times indicated. ABG, arterial blood gas; ACSF, artificial cerebral spinal fluid.
