HNF4a, HNF1α, HNF1β and TCF7L2 encode transcription factors produced in the β‐cell and are implicated in pancreatic development. WFS1 encodes wolframin, a protein that regulates calcium transport in the endoplasmic reticulum. CDKAL1 and CDKN2A/B are involved in the cyclin‐dependent kinase pathway, and might thus influence β‐cell regeneration.
