The freshwater species, golden mussel Limnoperna fortunei, was spiked into the plankton sample collected from the marine harbour, Bayside (A), while the marine species, bay scallop Argopecten irradians, was spiked into the plankton sample collected from the freshwater harbour, Nanticoke (B). For each indicator species, we set up three replicates and four gradients (See Figure 1 for more detail).
