Integrated conceptual information Φ is computed for the power set of elements of system ABCDEF (all possible candidate sets). By the exclusion postulate, among overlapping candidate sets, only one set of elements forms a complex, the one that generates the maximum amount of integrated conceptual information Φ^Max. In the example system the set of elements ABC form the complex. Therefore, no subset or superset of ABC can form another complex. Note that all candidate sets that include D, E, or F are not strongly integrated and thus have Φ = 0 (only one example is shown).
