Circularly polarized B1 field. (A) shows quadrature mode excitation which means that the B1 field is co-rotating with the nuclear magnetic spins; (B) shows anti-quadrature mode excitation which means that the B1 field is counter-rotating with respect to the nuclear magnetic spins. Anti-quadrature mode should not yield any image when the B1 fields are perfectly circularly polarized.
