The efficacy of VEGF-R signalling by mouse and human VEGF is species-specific. The induction of expression of the VEGF-A target gene VCAM1 was measured by qRT-PCR in human and murine endothelial cells (EC) after stimulation with 50 ng/ml of either recombinant murine or human VEGF (rmVEGF164 and rhVEGF165, respectively).
