The messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of Notch receptor 1-4 and its ligands Jag1 and 2 and Dll1 and 4 by real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction analysis in placentas from patients with early-onset severe preeclampsia. The relative mRNA expression of the Notch 2 and Dll4 decreased significantly in placentas of patients with early-onset severe preeclampsia compared with those of the normal-term placentas.
