Models were further adjusted for baseline year of intake, race/ethnicity, education (y), baseline smoking status, and baseline BMI. See Materials and Methods for more details on covariate coding and model specifications. Random effects are presented only for the MMSE, for simplicity. *P < 0.10 for interaction with gender to test effect modification by gender for each of the 3 predictors’ effects (i.e., caffeine intake, alcohol intake, and NAS) on cognitive performance at baseline and cognitive change over time.
