Serial FVC and DLCO measurements of lung function were performed on IPF patients being evaluated for lung transplantation. Annual rates of decline in both measures were calculated as described in Methods and plotted against plasma MMP-8 levels measured using an ELISA. Correlations between MMP-8 plasma levels and absolute annual rate of decline in FVC (A) or DLCO (B) were calculated using the Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient; 45 IPF patients were studied in A and B.
