Mature amygdala-mPFC connectivity following maternal deprivation. Unlike typically-raised (comparison) children who showed immature (positive) amygdala-medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) connectivity, previously institutionalized (PI) children exhibited the mature pattern of negative amygdala-mPFC coupling, such that PI children resembled adolescents.
