Frequency distribution of the ratio of proboscis length and body length in 50 collected Riodindae belonging to 16 species. Species with a proboscis that is shorter than the body (short-tongued group: relative proboscis length = 0.2–0.8) are distinct from Eurybia species (long-tongued group: relative proboscis length = 1.6–2.4) with a long proboscis (Mann-Whitney U-test: Z = −5.939, P = 0.0001, N = 50).
