Trial name or title Active management of the third stage of labour without controlled cord traction: a randomised non-inferiority controlled trial
Methods Multi-centre RCT.
Participants Women giving birth vaginally.
Interventions Intervention: active management of third stage of labour without CCT: 1)10 units oxytocin IM immediately after birth of baby; 2) delayed cord clamping and 3) placenta delivered by gravity or maternal effort.
Comparison: active management of third stage of labour: 1) 10 units oxytocin IM immediately after birth of baby; 2) delayed cord clamping and 3) placenta delivered by controlled cord traction
Outcomes Primary: blood loss > 1000 mL.
Secondary: blood transfusions, additional uterotonic; blood loss > 500 mL; postpartum maternal Hb; maternal death; manual removal of placenta; additional surgical procedures (hysterectomy, ligation of vessels); composite outcome of maternal death and serious morbidity; initiation of breastfeeding; side effects of nausea and abdominal pain
