Table 2.

Electrophysiologic analysis of psychogenic tremor

  1. Pattern of EMG bursts

    1. Temporal relationships of the EMG bursts from the antagonistic muscles (alternate or synchronous)

    2. Duration of EMG bursts and their variability

    3. Rhythm (regular or irregular)

    4. Presence of coactivation sign

  2. Tremor frequency

    1. By counting the number of EMG bursts over a given period

    2. By Fast Fourier Transformation of the accelerometer recording to obtain:

      1. The peak frequency

      2. The total power in the frequency range between 2 and 30 Hz

  3. Modulation of tremor frequency during distraction, mental tasks, voluntary movements of other limb

  4. Amplitude

    1. Variable and of less diagnostic significance

    2. Change with peripheral loading

  5. Coherence analysis
