Pup weights of offspring from control, Spot14-null, and MMTV-Spot14 mothers. A: Litters were standardized to seven or eight wild-type pups per dam, and n = 3–5 dams per genotype and diet. Dams were provided standard chow, HCD (3.9% kcal fat), or HFD (46% kcal fat) 1 day prior to parturition. Growth of pups reared by Spot14-null dams on the chow diet (open circles) diverged from that of controls (solid circles) at lactation day 11 (P ≤ 0.05). Maternal HFD (solid triangles) provided 1 day prior to parturition restored the pup growth deficit observed in offspring suckling Spot14-null dams provided chow (open circles). Pups reared by dams provided HCD grew at the lowest rate.
