The effect of lc and fas loci on locule number in tomato. (A) Alignment of the wild type (accession JF284938) and mutant (JF284939) LC allele sequences with the canonical MADS box transcription factor CArG1 binding sequence (Tilly et al., 1998). The two mutations in LC reduce the alignment to the consensus sequence. (B) The effect on locule number in the fas, lc and the double fas/lc NIL compared to wild type (WT). The number below the NIL indicates the average locule number from over 40 fruit evaluated each from 5 plants. The increase in locule number in the double NIL indicates synergistic interactions of the two mutations. Size bar = 1 cm.
