Note. AI/AN = American Indian and Alaska Native; CHSDA = Contract Health Service Delivery Area; CI = confidence interval; IHS = Indian Health Service; RR = rate ratio. Analysis includes only persons of non-Hispanic origin. States and years of data excluded because Hispanic origin was not collected on the death certificate: LA: 1990; NH: 1990–1992; OK: 1990–1996. Rates are per 100 000 persons and are age-adjusted to the 2000 US standard population (11 age groups - Census P25-1130). RRs are calculated in SEER*Stat before rounding of rates and may not equal RRs calculated from rates presented in table. Percent regional coverage of AI/AN persons in CHSDA counties to AI/AN persons in all counties: Northern Plains = 64.8%; Alaska = 100%; Southern Plains = 76.3%; Southwest = 91.3%; Pacific Coast = 71.3%; East = 18.2%; total US = 64.2%.
