These interact with each other and ultimately contribute to the chronic diseases whose prevalence increases with aging in the human population (shown in the upper right). The figure suggests that understanding these (and other) aspects of the biology of aging should lead to treatments and interventions that will lessen the burden of chronic disease. The listed aspects of aging biology and the chronic diseases are representative.
