Scheme of the model used in the simulation study. An ancestral population of 500 diploid individuals reaches mutation-drift equilibrium during B generations, it then splits into three populations of 500 random-mating diploid individuals each. At time tm a mutation occurs in population 3, which is adaptive in population 3 if G > 0. At time ts, 15 individuals are sampled from each of the three populations.
