Cells extracted from the diaphyseal region expressed higher levels of osteogenic marker genes; RUNX2, ALP, Type I collagen and Osteonectin (A–D) while epiphyseal cells expressed higher level of genes associated with chondrogenesis; SOX9 and Type II collagen (E–F). Relative expression was normalized to β-Actin with epiphyseal cell populations set to have an expression of one. Data are represented as an average of three independent patient samples and error bars represent standard deviation. **P<0.01; ***P<0.001.
