The fragment sizes for E. coli, Salmonella, and Yersinia were calculated from genome sequence data. Fragments were numbered 1 through 7, and the smallest fragment was fragment 1. Fragments 3, 4, and 5 of WPP19 (indicated by an open circle, an open triangle, and an asterisk, respectively) were used as probes to determine the homologous regions in other E. carotovora subsp. carotovora strains.
