SOX2+ cells can be found scattered within white matter. We do not detect NeuN+/SOX2+ neuronal cells (A), Iba-1+/SOX2+ microglial cells (B), or CNPase+/SOX2+ differentiated oligodendrocytes (C). Although the vast majority of SOX2+ cells were GFAP (D), some of them were GFAP+ astrocytes with more activated morphology (E). F. Finally, most of the SOX2+ cells corresponded to OLIG2high, which are thought to be oligodendrocyte progenitor cells in adult brain white matter. SOX2+/OLIG2low and SOX2+/OLIG2 could be also found in all samples. The scale bars represent 20 µm. Glioblastoma sections used as positive controls are collected in Figure S6.
