Impact of physiologic estrogen replacement on bone density in adolescent girls with anorexia nervosa (AN). Girls with AN randomized to physiologic estrogen administration (AN-E+) had significant increases in bone density at the lumbar spine over 6, 12 and 18 months compared with those randomized to placebo (AN-E−), to approximate bone accrual rates observed in controls (C) (adjusted for baseline age and weight).
