Increased accumulation of fibrocytes and CCR5-positive cells in the dermis of SSc patients. Fibrotic and control human skin sections were stained using the indicated antibodies and DAPI to detect nuclei. Large numbers of double-positive cells were observed in SSc dermis for each comparison (A, CCR5 vs. Procol I; C, Procol I vs. CD45; E, CCR5 vs. CD45), while almost none were observed in Control dermis. These representative fields were photographed at 400 × magnification. To quantify these observations, the number of double-positive cells was counted in three subjects per category, five high power fields (HPF) per subject.
