Strictly conserved residues are highlighted with an asterisk and similarly conserved residues are marked as a colon. The two glutamate catalytic residues are strictly conserved (highlighted with gray background). All xylanases have a signal peptide at the N-terminus whereas only XylB and XylF have a CBM at their C-terminal end. The figure was made using ClustalW Thompson et al. ([1994]).
