Multivariate statistics of ROI spectral data using SAM and PLS DA resulted in detection of several molecular species displaying ALS associated increase in the grey matter. (A) These included lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC (16:0), [M + H]+ 496.5, arrow) as well as its fragments, PC-headgroup (PC) and trimethylethylimine (TME), observed in pos. ion mode. (B) In addition, protein fragments (m/z 26.01, [CN] and m/z 87.9, [NaKCN+]) as well as hydrogensulfite (m/z 80.96, [HSO3]) were found elevated in the ventral horn of ALS spinal cord (arrow).
