The following should be considered at the initial assessment:
  • Pre-existing neurologic disorder

  • Learning disorders

  • ADD or ADHD

  • Pre-existing mood disorders

  • Sleep disorders

  • Migraine headaches

  • Alcohol or drug use

  • Bleeding abnormalities

  • Language barrier

  • Multiple traumas

  • Use of psychoactive drugs

  • Use of anticoagulants

  • History of previous concussion

  • Dangerous style of playing

  • Suspected or diagnosed cervical spine injury

ADD—attention deficit disorder, ADHD—attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, MHI—mild head injury.
