Oncolytic vaccinia virus induces a reversible vascular collapse in the tumor as determined by contrast enhanced ultrasound. Contrast enhanced ultrasound was used to determine vascularity and perfusion rates in vvDD treated tumors. Mice (BALB/c) with subcutaneous 4T1 tumors implanted on the hind limb were treated intravenously with 1×108 PFU of vvDD-Luc when tumors became palpable (50-100mm3, day 0). Images of tumor vasculature were created through intravenous injection of non-targeted contrast enhanced microbubbles at different times (top), while rates and levels of perfusion (contrast intensity change over time) are plotted for representative animals.
