Ten bases of DNA-RNA hybrid extend from the base of the loop to the 5′
and 3′ ends of the oligonucleotide. Four thymidines, that remain
single-stranded, form the hairpin loop. Other hybrids are similar in design, but
differ in hybrid length, in percent GC content, and whether they are DNA-DNA,
RNA-RNA, or DNA-RNA.
