INS-1 832/13 β cells were treated with or without TNF-α, IFN-γ, and IL-1β and with or without recombinant TIMP-1. Numbers of cells staining positive for PH3 (A) and cleaved caspase-3 (B) were counted and expressed as a percentage of total cell number. Results are expressed graphically and representative images from 3 independent experiments are displayed. *p<0.05 compared to cytokine- and TIMP-1-untreated control INS-1 cells. #p<0.05 compared to cytokine-treated INS-1 cells.
